4-H Head, Heart, Hands, Health
The 4-H Pledge
I pledge my Head to clearer thinking,
My Heart to greater loyalty,
My Hands to larger service,
and my Health to better living,
for my club, my community, my country, and my world.
The 4-H Creed
We believe in 4-H, for the opportunity it teaches regarding becoming a useful citizen. The Feys Kids are proud members of the Montgomery County 4-H. They are always active in the Sheep & Swine Club and Beef Club and they show their animals each year at the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair which occurs in mid-August.
If you are interested in supporting the 4-H and the 4-H children (ours or others), please contact us. At the end of each Montgomery County Fair, the kids offer a 4-H hog, beef steer or meat goat for sale which has been raised and shown by one of the Feys Kids. To purchase an entire hog, steer or goat the cost is more than you would pay at the store but the “donation” is tax deductible. A whole hog is about $1,500 all-in, a steer is $5,000 and a goat $500. All-in simply means the price also includes processing at a local USDA Certified butchers shop.
The hogs usually yield between 150 to 180 pounds of sausage, bacon, pork chops, ribs, shoulders & butts. A beef steer yields between 600-700 pounds of steaks, burgers and roasts. A goat should yield between 30 to 40 pounds of rib-lets (similar to lamb chops), sausage and/or our famous goat hot dogs. They are really terrific!
As a potential tax right off - any amount over market price is a write-off for you as a donation to the 4-H, a 501(c)3 organization. To put the cost in perspective, 4-H hogs are sold at the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair Auction for approximately $1200 - $2,000 for each animal. In addition to the sale auction price, the buyer is required to pay processing fees which are an additional $250-$350 for hogs. Beef steers sell for approximately $4,000 - $6,000 plus an addition $750 for processing. Goats sell for approximately $400 - $1,200 plus $150 for processing. THE FEYS KIDS INCLUDE THE PROCESSING in your donated amount!
Animals may also be purchased and donated back to the charity of your choice.
In the recent past, the Feys parents and other supporters have done so and donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Wounded Warrior Project, The Independence Fund, Montgomery County Hospice and the Montgomery County Sheep & Swine Club.
